Step-by-step explanation:

remaining length = original length - length of cut piece

SOLUTION

GIVEN

From an iron bar of length (20 –7y) m, a piece of length (2y –1) m was cut.

TO DETERMINE

The length of the remaining iron bar.

EVALUATION

Length of the iron bar = ( 20 - 7y ) m

The length of the bar cut = ( 2y - 1 ) m

Hence the required length of the remaining iron bar

= ( 20 - 7y ) m - ( 2y - 1 ) m

= ( 20 - 7y - 2y + 1 ) m

= ( 21 - 9y ) m
