from chapter: simple and compound interest
two years ago , a village had 16000 people . in the next year the population increases by 10% but the next year due to drought many people left the village and the population decrease by 18% .what is the present population

Final population = 16000(1+ 10/100)(1-18/100) = 16000* 110* 82/100*100 = 1.6*110*82 =16*11*82 Multiple it and you will get the answer

two years ago  P = 16,000
     r = 10% = 0.1
 
     So one year ago  P = 16,000 + 16, 000  * 0.1 = 17,600
   Now, population is  100%-18% of  population one year ago.

 So population now =  17, 600 * 82 % = 14, 432
