Q: Why are the children peering out?

Ans: The children were peering out for a look at the hidden sun because it was to rise after seven long years..

Q: Why had they not seen it before?

Ans: They had not seen it, that is the sun, before because the sun rises or is seen only once in seven years on the planet where they live. It is so also because for seven years there is a heavy rain on that planet.
