let BC be the height of the tower
AB be the height of the light house
and, D be the point from where there angles
are to be found

by question, in ∆BCD
tanD = BC/DC
tan30°= 40/DC
1/√3 = 40/DC
DC = 40√3 ...........(1)

Now in ∆ ABC
tanD=AC/DC
tan60°=AB+BC/DC
√3 =AB+40/40√
40√3x√3 =AB+40
40 x 3=AB+40
120=AB+40
AB=120-40
AB=80

Hence, the height of the light house is 80m.
