Signals of parturition originates from the fully developed foetus and placenta inducing mild uterine contractions called foetal ejection reflex. It triggers the release of oxytocin from the pituitary of the mother. Oxytocin acts on the uterine muscles, causes strong uterine contractions which in turn stimulates further secretion of oxytocin.
