In drier areas, this is a pretty common phenomena. There are a number of amphibian species that very quickly breed only during a heavy rain or monsoon. The adults remain in hibernation buried underground, and emerge after a rain and quickly breed and lay eggs in temporary pools and puddles. This happens quickly.
