During summer, a powerful low pressure develops over interior Asia as well as over north western Asia. On the other hand, high pressure appears over the Southern Indian Ocean. Due to this, air moves from over the ocean in south westerly direction, crosses the Equator and turns right towards low pressure areas over the Indian subcontinent. These are South West Monsoon winds. They blow from the sea to land and carry lots of moisture which brings rain.
