Solution :

We know that, at first he bought 6 oranges and then 10 oranges.

  • ∴ There are (6 + 10) = 16 oranges.

Cost Price :

⟹ Cost price of 6 oranges = Rs. 10

⟹ Cost price of 10 oranges = Rs. 20

⟹ ∴ Cost price of 16 oranges = (Rs. 10 + Rs.20) = Rs. 30

⟹ Then, Cost price of 1 orange will be = 16 / 30 = Rs. 1.87

Selling Price :

⟹ He sold 1 dozen for Rs. 21.60.

⟹ 1 Dozen = 12 oranges

⟹ Selling price of 12 oranges = Rs. 21.60

⟹ ∴ Selling price of 1 orange will be = 12 / 21.60 = Rs. 1.8

Comparing both :

  • Cost price of 1 orange = Rs. 1.87
  • Selling price of 1 orange = Rs. 1.8

∴ It is a Loss.

Finding Loss :

⟹ Loss = Cost price - Selling price

⟹ 1.87 - 1.8

⟹ 0.07

Finding Loss % :

⟹ Loss % = Loss × 100 / cost price

⟹ 0.07 × 100 / 1.87

⟹ 4 %

  • ∴ The Loss % = 4 %
