They can occur between two ions in a ionic bond or between atoms in a covalent bond ,dipole moment arise from differences in electrinegativity, the distance between the charge separation is also a deciding factor into the size of the dipole moment .the dipole moment is a measure of the polarity of the molecule.
hope it will help u

Hello!!
So let's do this!!

Dipole Moment ::
It is the vector sum of all individual bond moments .
Mathematically Dipole moment = q*d
where q is the magnitude of partial charges
and d is thr distance between the centers of opposite charge.
The charge q is of the order of 10^-10 esu and d is the order of 10^-8 cm.
Therefore, the dipole moment is in the order of 10^-10 x 10^-8 = 10^-18 esu cm. This quantity is known as one debye
if Q is in Coulomb and d is in metre then Dipole moment is expressed in Coulomb metre

dipole moment is a vector quantity and is it depicited by a small arrow with a long tail on the positive centre and head pointing towards the negative charge.
the shift of the electron density is symbolized by Crossed arrow above the lewis structure to indicate thr direction of the shift...

hope it helps!!
By the way I'm not a brainly teacher!!
