It was formed on 7 April 1948 (69 years ago).

The Director-General of WHO is Tedros Adhanomon, who is the head of the WHO, since 1 July, 2017.

The World Health Organization is an institution to develop mutual cooperation and standards on the health related problems of the countries of the world. 193 member countries of the World Health Organization and two related members. This is a subsidiary entity of the United Nations. This institution was established on April 7, 1948. Its aim is to elevate the level of health of the people of the world. The WHO headquarters is located in the city of Geneva, Switzerland. Ethiopian Dr. Tadros Adrenom Gabberees has been elected the new Director General of the World Health Organization .

He will replace Dr. Margaret Chan, who is retiring from this post after working for two or five years of five years i.e. ten years.

India is also a member state of the World Health Organization and its Indian Headquarters is located in Delhi, India's capital.
