The function of the ribs in the breathing process is to contract and create some space during the contraction and expansion process of the lungs.

The function of Diaphragm in the breathing process is contraction and relaxation of its muscles which lead to the increase and decrease of the chest volume and hence in breathing.

The function of abdominal muscles is forced respiration by raising and lowering the ribs.Contraction of these muscles forces the contents of the abdomen upwards, reducing the volume of the chest cavity and leading to contraction of the lungs for expiration.

function:

*The diaphragm is the majormuscle responsible for breathing.

* It is a thin, dome-shaped musclethat separates the abdominalcavity from the thoracic cavity.

*During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts, so that its center moves caudally (downward) and its edges move rostrally (upward).
