Florigen (or flowering hormone) is the hypothesized hormone-like molecule responsible for controlling and/or triggering flowering in plants. Florigenis produced in the leaves, and acts in the shoot apical meristem of buds and growing tips. It is known to be graft-transmissible, and even functionsbetween species.

The functions of florigen are:

1. Florigen helps in regulating the growth.

2.In short day plants florigen acts at the shoot apex and there by induces the flower formation.

3.In some long day plants florigen helps in the stem elongation and inflorescence formation that is induces the flower formation.
