The round window in the middle ear vibrates
in opposite phase to vibrations entering the inner ear through the oval window.
In doing so , it allows fluid in the cochlea to move.

The foot of the Stapes is directly attached to the membrane of the oval window, which is in turn connected with perilymph of the scala vestibuli. when the vibrations are passed on through the OVAL WINDOW, the perilymph (fluid) also moves and to the balance the pressure generated the membrane of the round window bulges out.
so basically the oval window is for the sound to transmit and the round window for the pressure to balance out.
