Blood:
- Blood is a liquid connective tissue.
- It consists of blood plasma and blood corpuscles.
- Blood corpuscles are of three types:
- Red Blood Corpuscles (RBC)
- White Blood Corpuscles (WBC)
- Blood Platelets
Red Blood Corpuscles:
- These are biconcave disc-like structures and their cytoplasm is filled with haemoglobin.
- RBC's are manufactured in bone marrow.
- Their life span is about 120 days.
- After that they are destroyed by liver and spleen.
- Their small size helps in absorbing oxygen and enables them to travel in blood capillaries.
White Blood Corpuscles:
- These are nucleated and amoeboid cells that lack haemoglobin.
- These are of two types: granulocytes and agranulocytes.
- They are manufactured in bone marrow.
- They are capable of squeezing out capillaries that destroy foreign matter.
- They are known as the soldiers of the body.
