Functional middlemen and merchant middlemen.

Middlemen are the links in between the dealers and consumers of goods.

They are divided into 2 types:-
1. Functional Middlemen – They undertake different marketing functions in the distribution process of goods without having ownership rights. They operate on behalf of the owners and undertake functions related to purchase and sale. 

2. Merchant Middlemen – They act on their own right while buying and selling goods at a profit. They bear the risks of trade and perform functions like storing, packing, packaging etc. The Wholesale traders and retail traders are considered as merchant middlemen.

Functional middlemen: He work for handling of sale as well purchase.Without having any ownership, functional middlemen perform the marketing work or function in transportation of the goods. Actually , they work because the owner give them that seat instead of doing this in his own.

Merchant Middlemen : Merchant middlemen do their own work about sale and  purchase . This enable them to keep their profit. For exmaple whole sale trader.
