1) IT TRANSPORTS DIGESTED FOOD, I.e, sugars, amino acids, minerals and vitamins from small intestine to all parts of the body for storage and assimilation.
2) it carries excretory materials from liver to kidney for filtration and elimination.
3) it carries hormones from the endocrine glands to the organs where they are needed.
4) it maintains body temperature by distributing excess heat from the organs throughout the body.
5) blood acts as buffer system and regulates the pH of tissue fluids.
6) it carries oxygen from lungs to all the parts of body and carbon dioxide from all body parts to the lungs. the blood carrying oxygen is called oxygenated blood and blood containing carbon dioxide in large amount is called deoxygenated blood.
7) the property of blood to clot,prevents loss of blood in case of injury.
8) blood balances the water and mineral content in the body by providing them in the region of deficiency and removing from the area of excess.
