It is commonly referred to as the throat. The pharynx is part of both the digestive and respiratory systems. For the digestive system, its muscular walls function in the process of swallowing, and it serves as a pathway for the movement of food from the mouth to the esophagus.

Pharynx is basically the part of both the digestive and respiratory systems.

◽The pharynx is generally considered a part of the throat in both the animals with vertebrate and without it that is invertebrate animals.

◽Through pharynx both air and food pass.

◽ The main role of Pharynx's in respiratory system is to allow the inhaled air entering the nasal cavity and to make its way easy to the respiratory tract .

◽In digestive system it serves as a pathway for the movement of food from the mouth to the esophagus and this movement of food through this passage is known as peristalsis.
