Due to the meiotic division occuring in gametes (ova and sperm) they forms haploid daughter cells from a diploid mother cell.

A diploid mother cell undergoes reduction division and form two haploid daughter cells.

From those two haploid daughter cells four haploid daughter cells are formed.

Gametes fuse to form zygote and then it becomes 2n or diploid.
