Answer:

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as father of Nation, was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. Over 1.16 crore students from more than 50,000 schools in Gujarat planted 1.5 crore saplings since June 15 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

There can be so many topics on which a student can speak on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti as Bapu had touched every walk of life and continued to inspire everyone till today.

Following are some ideas that students can refer to while preparing speech.

The Speech topics can be on

1) What Gandhi Means in the 21st Century

2) Gandhi thought on Untouchability

3) Gandhi Message to Muslims

4) Gandhi Message on Humanity

5) Gandhi Message to students

6) Gandhi Movements like (i) Daandi March, (ii) Quit India Movement, (iii) Non Co-operation movement, (iv) discarding of foreign goods

7) Gandhi thought on Education

8) Gandhi - A man of simple living and high thinking

9) Gandhi - from ordinary barrister to father of a nation

But on this birth anniversary, when India and the whole world is celebrating 150th anniversary of the Mahatma, we suggest one of the important topics for speech can be "Bapu and the non-violence".

Considering the scenario in India as well as around the world, this topic will be most relevant to talk about. One can take up a speech on why the United Nations General Assembly decided to keep non-violence day on Gandhi's birthday and why the non-violence is the need of the hour.

The United Nations General Assembly on June 15, 2007 has declared the 2nd October as International Day of Non-Violence.

Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence remains sage advice in a world where differences are more easily amplified and people take offence more readily. During India's struggle for freedom, he showed the world that freedom can be achieved peacefully through the path of non-violence.

Gandhi won rights for the 75,000 Indians living in South Africa. He achieved this without violence. Gandhi firmly believed that people could never win their rights through violence. He used new form of protest "Satyagraha" - derived from the Sanskrit words meaning "truth" and "force."
