Here is your answer,

==============================================

The Government of India was then seeking to crush the three powerful vehicles of expressing and cultivating public opinion.

The fight for Swaraj meant a fight for this threatened freedom before all else.

Gandhiji made this statement during the course of the non cooperation movement and considered freedom of press, freedom and association as powerful vehicles of forming and expressing public opinion.

 According Mahatma Gandhi, these three freedoms were the most important and rather prerequisites for attaining Swaraj , which according to him meant Swa- Self and Raj meant - rule.

 These freedoms rather formed the basis of freedom struggle and laid the foundation of values of freedom, liberty which people of India are fighting for.

 Gandhi criticised colonial government's attempt to crush freedom of press, association through its Draconian acts and laws , like the vernacular press act , which gave extensive rights to the British to censor, newspapers reports, editorials that aimed at criticising the British rule.

 It was a sign of oppressive British policy.
