Answer: 4 x 20 Rs and 8 x 10 Rs

Step-by-step explanation:

y = 2x and 20x+10y = 160

2x+y = 16

2y = 16

y = 8 so, x = 8/2 = 4

Ganga has 8, 10 Rs notes and 4, 20 Rs notes

Given:

Ganga has some 10 Rs notes and some 20 Rs notes.

The number of 20 notes is half that of 10 notes

Total amount she has = 160 Rs

To find:

Find the number of notes of each denomination

Solution:

Let Ganga has x number of 10 Rs notes

then number of 20 Rs notes = x/2

If Ganga has x number of 10 Rs notes

then the total amount she has with 10 Rs = x × 10 Rs = 10x Rs

If Ganga has x/2 number of 20 Rs notes

then the total amount she has with 20 Rs = x/2 × 20 Rs = 10x Rs

From given data the total amount she has = 160 Rs

⇒ 10x Rs + 5x Rs =  160 Rs

⇒ 20x = 160

⇒ x = 8

⇒ Number of 10 Rs notes = 8

⇒ Number of 20 Rs notes = 8/2 = 4

Ganga has 8, 10 Rs notes and 4, 20 Rs notes
