The Ganges River flow through the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal.
It originates in the Gangotri glacier near Gaumukh in Uttarakhand. Here, it is known as Bhagirathi. At Devpryag, the Bhagirathi meets the Alaknanda, from here it is known as Ganga.
The Alaknanda has its source in the Satopanth glacier.
The Alaknanda consists of the Dhauli and the Vishnu Ganga, which meets at Joshimath or Vishnu Prayag.
It is 2525 km long of which 1450 km is in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, 445km in Bihar and 520 km in West Bengal.
