8631-8247 = 384

384 x 0.11 = 42.24

42.24 + 25.57 = 67.81

Given:

Gas meter reading at the beginning of the period was 8247

Gas meter reading at the end of the period was 8631

The per unit cost of the gas = 11 paise = Rs. 0.11 ..... [since 100 paise makes 1 rupee]

The fixed cost = Rs. 25.57

To find:

The cost of the gas

Solution:

We have been given the gas meter readings at the beginning and end of the period.

∴ The units used during the given period = 8631 - 8247 = 384

So, The cost of the gas for the 384 units used = 384 × Rs. 0.11 = Rs. 42.24

Also a fixed charge of Rs. 25.57 was added on to the cost

Thus,

The final cost of the gas will be,

= Rs. 42.24 + Rs. 25.57

= Rs. 67.81
