Step-by-step explanation:

a) 1 litre = 1000 ml

So divide 1000 by 4.

It gives the answer 250.

So, 250 fountain pens can be filled with 1 litre of ink.

b) 1/2 litre = 500 ml

If one fountain pen requires 4 ml of ink, then how much ink will be needed to fill 12 fountain pens? To find out, multiply 12 by 4.

It gives you the answer 48.

To find out the quantity of the remaining ink, subtract 48 from 500.

500-48 = 452

452 ml of ink will be remaining
