In the beginning, there were only the Creator, Mebege, in the heavens and a spider,
Dibobia that hung below him over the primordial waters that covered the world. Dibobia told
Mebege that they had to create the Earth. Mebege took hair from under his right arm,
material from his brain, and a smooth pebble from the sea. He blew on these things, and
they turned into an egg. Mebege gave the egg to Dibobia, who lowered it into the sea.
When enough time had passed, Mebege went down and put semen on the egg. The egg
cracked open and three beings emerged—Zame ye Mebege, who was God; Nyingwan
Mebege, the sister of God; and Nlona Mebege, the brother of God, who was evil. Mebege
and Dibobia withdrew to the heavens, leaving Zame in control of creation. Zame first created
termites and worms. He used their droppings to build up the land, which formed in the sea.
Finally, he created human beings.​
