Answer:

probability = no of favorable event/total no of possible event

no of favorable event=no of red balls + no of white balls=45+24=69

no of all possible event= total no of balls=81

probability= 69/81

Concept

The formula will use to solve the problem

If events A and B are independent events then P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B).

Given

Gelo has 12 blue balls, 45 red balls, and 24 white balls.

To find

The probability that Gelo randomly selects a white ball or a red ball.

Solution

Event (A)

No of the event when he picks red balls is 45.

Then the probability P(A) = 45/81

Event (B)

No of the event when he picks white balls is 24.

Then the probability P(B) = 24/81

So probability to select randomly selects a red ball or a white ball P(A U B) = 45/81 + 24/81

   = 69/81

Hence the probability to select  red ball or a white ball is 69/81.
