Ponds do not needed to be cleaned but aquarium needs to be cleaned. This is because aquarium do not contain soil and decomposing bacteria which helps in degrading complex organic substance into simple inorganic substance and act as a cleaner . But pond have this facility.

Ponds and lakes are natural ecosystems. They have decomposers or natural cleaners to decompose the wastes of all aquatic organisms. So it  is not necessary to clean it.

But aquariums are man made ecosystems. They dont have decomposers or natural cleaners. So it should be cleaned regularly.
