Answer:

A generic medicine is the same as a brand-name medicine in dosage, safety, effectiveness, strength, stability, and quality, as well as in the way it is taken and should be used. The FDA Generic Drugs Program conducts a rigorous review to make suregeneric medicines meet these requirements.

Explanation:

Since, branded medicines are too expensive for common man to afford, therefore need of generic medicine arises. Due to high cost of medicines nearly 2billion people do not have access to life-saving medicines. Also, the growth in number of fatal diseases have increased over the year and also the cost of those medicines for such diseases are very high. This is where generic medicine plays an important role.

Generic medicines cost very little as compared to branded medicines because the generic medicine manufacturers do not have to bear the cost of making a new medicine from scratch and they even save on marketing. This makes generic medicines price 30% to 70% less than branded medicines. And for those who doubt the reliability of generic medicines, FDA monitors manufacturing of these medicines closely and passes them for prescription use only after lab testing. It is safe to use generic medicines just like any other branded medicines.
