Gene are the functional segments of DNA...it is a part of chromosome which controls traits.
let me take pea plant as example to explain you....let me take the trait tall and dwarf
a section of dna provides information for 1 protien cell and called as gene
if protiens work efficiently then trait get expressed in a better way...
pea plant height depends upon amnt of growth hormone released by protien
if protien is efficient more growth hormone will be released and plant is taller
but if protien is inefficient then plant will be shrorter
thus through protiens present in genes, genes control the traits
