Answer: Be yourself

"No need to struggle to be Number One, just be yourself, be the Only One". This song by the music group SMAP cheered me up many times last year. These words helped me understand that life would be more enjoyable and happier if we recognize each other's personality.

I have a lot of dislikes; for example, with food I hate pumpkin, with sports I don't like running a marathon, and with studying I just don't seem to grasp physics. However, the worst thing for me is to be compared to my older brother. He is two years older than me, and honestly, I don't want to say, but he is so smart and a good sports player. He behaves cool like Spiderman, and he is kind to everyone, especially girls. Can you understand how I feel?

My teacher said, "Hey, Takamasa! Your math test score is only 50 points. Your brother's test is one hundred points again." My friends said, "Hey, your brother's homerun was great!" At last, my favorite girl said to me, "Please tell me your brother's phone number." What a miserable boy I am! I'm really exhausted to be compared with him. Finally, I lost confidence in everything.

One day, I had a chance to take part in an English speech contest. In the depth of my heart, the angel and the devil argued with each other. The angel said; "Try it Takamasa, you can do it. Make good use of your opportunity." The devil said; "You can't do it! You don't have any ability. Give it up!" I was so confused and almost lost my way. At that time, I listened to the song again, "Each of us holding a different seed, just be yourself, that is all you need." The song cheered me to challenge the contest. From that day, I started training for the speech. I practiced hard, day and night. Slowly, but surely, I began to build up my confidence. Finally, at the speech contest, I could get a prize. The judge said; "I guess your way of making speech has not yet matured, but I can see your effort and personality in it. Continue to make your own speeches, which have your own personality."

People sometimes compare others because of their ability. They think if two things are different, one has to be better than another. This is not right. Everything can be different while still being good. If everyone were the same, how would you feel? It would be boring. It's important to recognize each other's unique personality. The world is very interesting because everyone is not the same.

"Just be yourself, that is all you need."

Thank you.
