I was getting down from the seaplane when a gust of wind swept away my hat.

it's really getting him down that there does not seem to be one woman who will date him

pintu482343: I will get of at the stop. is this sentence current?

Get off means to get away

it is a rude sentence in general

Get down means to move .It is a rather polite sentence.

eg: I want to get rid off you

eg: I want you to get down from my car
