1. A ball thrown vertically above the surface of earth.
2. A body attached to a spring.. and executing oscillations.
during the time the spring is expanding, the acceleration is against velocity.
3. If a balloon is rising in the sky, initially it accelerates.. But after reaching some height, the air is thin. so then the buoyancy is less. so the gravity more.
so acceleration will be negative ..
4. any vehicle moving uniformly, and the brakes are applied.
5. A ball is rolling on the ground. friction slows it.

Any retarding motion is taken as a example.
Throwing the ball up,
Motion of vehicle when applied brake.
Bullet penetrating the wood
Football rolling on the ground
In SImple harmonic motion, that is, a bob attached to a string, the displacement is in the opposite direction(against) the acceleration.
