Raja Ravi Varma is one of the eminent painters born to mother India .He is considered among the greatest painters in the history of Indian art.His paintings were mainly based on the fusion of European techniques with a purely Indian delicacy.Raja Ravi Varma  is a close relative of the royal family of Travancore now known as Kerela .Ezhumavil Neelakanthan Bhattatiripad and Umayamba Thamburatty gave birth to Raja Ravi Varma ,one of the gems of India.At the age of 18 Raja Ravi Varma married Bhageerthi Bayi who was 12 at tha time .Raja Ravi  Varma was patronised by Ayilyam Thirunal the next Maharajah of Travancore and began formal training thereafter.He learnt the basics in Madurai.In the year 1904 Lord Curzon honoured Raja Ravi Varma with Kaisar-i-Hind Gold Medal.

Raja Ravi Varma was a celebrated Indian painter and artist. He was also known as 'The Father of Modern Indian Art' and was an Indian painter of the 18th century. He was born on April 29, 1848 in Kilimanoor, Travancore and died at the age of 58 on 2 October 1906 in Attingal, Travancore, British Raj. Neelakanthan Bhattatiripad was the father and Umamba Thampuratti was the mother of Raja Ravi Varma. Goda Varma, Raja Varma and Mangala Bayi were the siblings of Raja Ravi Varma. Pururuttathi Nal Bhageerathi was the spouse of Raja Ravi Varma. The most expensive sari in the world is a 15-pound sari priced at USD 100,000 that pays tribute to his paintings (According to the Limca Book of World Records). He is considered among the greatest painters in the history of Indian art.
