Poverty in India has a different aspect when compared to poverty in the US. In US, people who are unable to afford cars are considered as poor. However, in India, owning a car is still considered a luxury in many places. Therefore, poverty depends on the aspects with which it is seen. The people below the poverty line are considered as extremely poor. They are given fundings by the government so that they can sustain and carry on.
