Descriptions about the mangrove forest and tropical evergreen forests are as follows -

  • Mangrove forest : This type of forest is mainly observed in the coastal areas where the environment is extremely saline. The mangrove plants or the halophytes can easily withstand this extremely saline environment due to their natural adaptations (eg. salt filtration by roots, aerial roots etc.). In the India, the most significant mangrove forest is situated in the delta region of the Ganga river. This forest is known as the Sundarbans which globally the biggest mangrove forest. Mangrove plants like Sundari, Gewa are very common here. The mangrove forest helps to prevent the soil erosion and that's why this type of forest is extremely important.
  • Tropical evergreen forest : This type of forest is mainly observed in the regions where adequate amount of temperature (15°C to 30°C) and rainfall (200cm) are available. The tropical evergreen forests are usually very dense in nature due to the enough availability natural resources. In the India, we can observe tropical evergreen forests in the Western Ghats, Andaman Nicobar Islands, Southern Indian regions and in many more locations. The tropical evergreen forests contain plants like Ebony, Mahogany, Rosewood, Teak etc. The mangrove forests are extremely useful because these forests are filled with different types of natural resources.

Mangrove Forest :

1) This forest is a group of shrubs and trees. About 80 species of mangrove forests are present.

2) The trees grow in soil that have low-oxygen.

3) These forests grows only at tropical and at subtropical latitudes as they can't survive in cold temperatures.

Tropical Evergreen Forest :

1) These forests are found in areas that receives rainfall of more than 200 cm and having 15-30° temperature.

2) About 7% of our earth's surface is occupied by this forest.

3) These forests are very densed and are also multi layered.
