green plants known as autrotrophs have the capacity to produce their own food. they do the same by the process known as photosynthesis. Green plants do this distinctive process due to the natural presence of chlorophyll(green pigment which traps sunlight ) in their mesophyll layer.

they make use of simple inorganic compounds found in nature like co2 and derive their nutrition to form simple glucose and oxygen as a byproduct.

GENERAL EQUATION...
chlorophyll + sunlight +6co2+6h2o ------------------> c6h12o6 +6o2
(glucose)
hope this helped you
thanks...

The basic process in which green plants produce food in photosynthesis.. (Synthesis in the process of sunlight) .
Photosynthesis is basically a process in which all the inorganic compounds like sunlight, water, carbon dioxide is converted into a organic compound(glucose)... This process is known as carbon assimilation..
The various steps in which photosynthesis occurs is as follows..

1) sunlight is converted into chemical energy

Its absorbed in the stroma of the chloroplast (light reaction) it is absorbed in the form of a photon

2) The process of hydrolysis occurs and water is introduced in the leaf by the xylem vessels from the roots.
The water(H20) molecule is broken into H+ and 02- by photolysis ( breaking down in presence of sunlight) the o2 is then released out..

3) the H2 molecule is then added up with Co2 to form glucose..

These processes only happens in organisms containing Chloroplasts..

Hope it HELPED .
Thanks
