Dog),[Note 1] published in 1889, is a humorous account by English writer Jerome K. Jerome of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford and back to Kingston. The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide,[1] with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages seem a distraction to the comic novel. One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers – the jokes seem fresh and witty even today.[2]

there were four of them– three men and a dog. three longtime friends, George wingrave (George), Carl Herschel ( Harris) and the narrator, Jerome k.jerome, where sitting in a room is smoking and talking about how physically bad they were from a medical point of view. the narrator Jerome suffered from every disease except the housemaid's knee. he was an interesting case from medical point of view-'a hospital' in himself. Harish complaining of Extraordinary fits of giddiness.
George also fancied that he was ill. all the three came to the unanimous decision that overwork had produced a general depression throughout their physical and mental systems. all of them needed 'rest and a complete Charge'.they wanted to go to new places far from the madding crowd– out of the reach of the noise world. George suggested;“ let's go up the river”. they could enjoy fresh air, exercise and peace. the charge of scale world occupied airlines and the hard work will give them a good appetite and sleep. the suggestion was improved by all except montmorency. the dog.
2. DISCUSS PLANS: they pull it out the maps and discuss the plans. they decided to start on the following saturday from Kingston. camping out in rainy weather was not pleasant. so it was decided and compromised that they would come out and sleep out on clear and find Nights .during the night they will stay in hotels inns and pubs. even the dog welcomed that compromise. they made a list of things to be carried with them. the river Thames would not allow the navigation of both sufficiently large and heavenly loaded . George gave a practical suggestion that they could carry with them only the things that where most necessary and they couldn't do without .A heavily loaded what could be cumbersome and even dangerous to manage.
then they discussed the food question all the three agreed that they will not use an oil stove for cooking. once they had taken up an oil stop and get it in the nose of the boat. it oozed up and saturated The scenery and spoiled the atmosphere and their moods .they confined themselves to methylated spirit .for breakfast and lunch George suggested eggs and Bacon as they were easy to cook. cold meat ,bread and butter and jam could be taken but they avoided cheese. they took up the whisky and didn't take beer or wine .they make people sleepy and heavy. they didn't believe in the “weather forecasts ”swindle .the weather was a thing which was beyond their control. the newspaper forecast was generally misleading. it forecasts precisely the opposite of what is going to happen today .they drovp off in great style and arrived at Waterloo. nobody at Waterloo did even know anything about the train .Jeremy and Harish were unable to find the correct train at Waterloo station .so they had to bribe half a crown to a train driver to take his train to Kingston. so Jeremy and Harish made their journey to Kingston by train. at Kingston they collected there hired boat and started their journey.they later met George up-river at Weybridge. the remainder of the story related their river journey and the incidentand started their journey and the incidents that occur.
