he rebellion began on 10 May 1857 in the form of a mutiny of sepoys of the Company's army in the garrison town of Meerut, 40 mi (64 km) northeast of Delhi (now Old Delhi). It then erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions chiefly in the upper Gangetic plain and central India,[a][6][b][7] though incidents of revolt also occurred farther north and east.

  • ENFIELD RIFLE wear greased with fat. Before loading the cartridges on to the rifle, the soilders had to bite off the end with their teeth. A rumour spread that the cartridges wear greased with fat of cows and pigs. The soilders believed that the cartridges wear intentionally greased with animal fat to hurt their religious sentiments. It was taboo for hindu to bite the fat of cat and Muslims to bite the fat of pig. So both hindu and muslim soilders refuse to use the cartridges when it was magnatory to use the cartridges, The indian soilders wear Increased.
