Answer :

In the poem 'The Fountain' by James Russell Lowell, the fountain serves as a source of inspiration to the poet. The poet describes the motion of the fountain during sunlight and moonshine that inspires him to achieve his highest goals in life. He wishes to be happy and cheerful in all situations of life just like the fountain.

The poet wishes to imbibe the qualities of cheerfulness, freshness, constancy,   and tamelessness from the fountain and use them for the betterment of his own work.
