The Aniline and benzylamine can be easily distinguished with the help of conducting a reaction test using the nitrous acid.
The nitrous acid used is prepared from the acid and sodium nitrite. Benzylamine reacts with HNO2 to form the unstable diazonium salt.
As a result of this, alcohol gets generated with the evolution of nitrogen gas.
On the second reaction, aniline reacts with the nitrous acid in a very low temperature and form the stable diazonium salt.
