Azo-dye test is used to distinguish the difference between the Ethylamine and aniline from each other. When the aniline gets treated with the Nitrous acid at 0-5°C, it forms a dye. ... Due to the evolution of the nitrogen gas during the reaction, ethylamine will give a brisk effervescence.

Ethylamine :

1) Reaction with nitrous acid gives

ethyl alcohol.

2) It doesn't form precipitate with

bromine water.

Aniline :

1) Reaction with nitrous acid gives

diazonium salt.

2) Treatment with bromine water,

decolourisation of bromine takes

place with the formation of white

precipitate.
