After they get dissolve in water, add little amount of silver nitrate solutions in both the test tubes. In of the test tube a precipitate of silver chloride (AgCl) will appear. It implies that the unknown matter is the potassium chloride.

Answer:

A test using a silver nitrate solution can be done to differentiate between potassium chloride and potassium iodide.

Explanation:

The tests for halide ions (fluoride, chloride, bromide and iodide) are done using silver nitrate solution followed by ammonia solution. In potassium chloride the halide is chloride, whereas in potassium iodide the halide is iodide.

When both the given solutions are reacted with silver nitrate solution,  the color of the precipitate gives the distinction. A white precipitate is formed with potassium chloride whereas a pale yellow precipitate is formed with potassium iodide.
