To test whether the hydrocarbon is saturated or unsaturated we can use the bromine test.

Bromine water test involves the addition of bromine water to the hydrocarbon. If the bromine water is decolourized by the hydrocarbon, it can then be concluded that the hydrocarbon is unsaturated and if it is not decolourized, then it will be saturated.
