Chemical test to distinguish between CO and H₂ are as follow:
If we oxidize CO in excess of O₂ ,it will give CO₂ gas and passing though lime water [Ca(OH)₂], it turns it milky.
CO + O₂ → CO₂
CO₂ + Ca(OH)₂ → CaCO₃ + H₂O
But hydrogen does not give this test.
Another test is to treat vegetable oils with hydrogen gas to give solid fat, but CO does not give this reaction.
Vegetable oil + H₂ → Fat
Vegetable oil + CO → No reaction

if CO2 gas is passed from lime water,than it turns milky white.
but
if burning matchstick get near the hydrogen gas it gives a pop sound.
but
