line spectrum can be prepared by heating the gases or vapours in Bunsen burner special type of light is emitted......when this line is passed through a prism ...this line splits into component lights seperated from each other with each line having a particular wavelength.......the each line is so unique from all other lines........the lines in this experiment can be used to detect the element used as a gas in this experiment...............due to seperated lines ....the spectrum occurs discontinuos i.e. minor gaps are seen in between them......so this spectrum is called line or discontinuous spectrum...........
