1) These phenomena happen due to Capillarity . The ink rises up in the capillaries found within a piece of chalk , ie the nooks and crevices in the structure of the piece of chalk.

2) This is due to Capillarity . it has several paths within itself which acts as capillaries. Sweat rises up in these capillaries and gets absorbed.
