305 BCE, the Emperor Chandragupta Maurya of the Maurya Empire led a series of campaigns to retake the satrapies left behind by the Macedonian Empire. Seleucus I Nicatorfought to defend these territories and also to extend his dominance over the Mauryan Empire. The war was a Mauryan victory, resulting in the annexation of Afghanistan and the Indus Valley regions into the Mauryan Empire. Chandragupta gained control over the area he sought, and consolidated a marriage alliance with the Seleucid Empire. Following the conflict, the Mauryan Empire emerged as a super power of it's time.
