Years ago there lived a wealthy and powerful King who resided on top of a mountain in the Western Ghats (Dudhsagar Falls) . The palace was made of ivory and precious stones surrounded by forest. At one end of the forest was a lake. The princess went to bath and sipped  milk which one of her maids served to her in a jug of gold.

One day, while sipping at the milk, she found herself being watched by a prince, standing amongst the trees who stopped on hearing the sound of people nearby. The princess filled with embarrassment, poured the jug of milk in front of him into the pond to form waterfall like structure so that the prince can't see her. It is believed that the sweetened milk still flows along the mountain, formerly called Dudhsagar Falls.

  • The Peninsular Rivers are thus of Immense importance.
  • No one will be able to consider a living without them.
