The various characters showcased in the play ‘The Dear Departed’ makes statement on the society in the modern days which has left behind the moral values.
It dispalys the mentality of the children who consider their parents as nothing less than a burden. People have lost sensitivity. They don’t have gratitude and are insensitive towards elderly people.
They feel that the elderly people should go away from the world. The characters of Amella and Elizabeth are more thoughtful towards thei appearances than being thankful for what they did for bringing them up.
One of the character is so insensitive that she is not even bothered to call the doctor to confirm if the father is really dead.
