acceleration (of − 9.81 m s − 2 ) but there can be a moment when the ball's instantaneous velocity is zero. In fact, if you hold a ball in your hand and will release it, then the ball starts its motion with non zero acceleration but zero speed.

Example for the motion of an object of zero speed and with non zero acceleration:

  • A ball that is at a certain height and is thrown downwards is an example of zero velocity but non zero acceleration.
  • This is happening at the point from where the ball is being dropped at that point the velocity of ball will be zero because it has not started motion but the acceleration acting on the ball due to the gravitational pull that is -9.8 m/s^2 shows that at this position.
  • "A ball that thrown downwards" is a perfect example of zero velocity but not zero acceleration.
